July 4th Fireworks

The following parking restrictions will be enforced in connection with the annual City of New Britain fireworks display on Wednesday evening, July 4th, at Stanley Quarter Park according to Sergeant Robert Martin of the New Britain Police Department Traffic Division.  These restrictions are necessary for the safe movement of both pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic at the festival site.

The annual display is scheduled to begin at dusk, at approximately 9:25 p.m.  The rain date is scheduled for Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the same aforementioned time.

The administration at Central Connecticut State University has offered the public free use of their parking lots and parking garage there.  The parking facilities at Central Connecticut State University can accommodate approximately 5,500 motor vehicles.

Handicapped parking will be allowed in Stanley Quarter Park, in the parking lot opposite Saint Francis Church on Stanley Street.

Parking will be allowed on the streets surrounding the general area of Stanley Quarter Park, on the opposite side of the street from the fire hydrants.  Any motor vehicles parked in violation of the temporary "No Parking-Tow Zone” signs, obstructing driveways, fire hydrants, intersections, and crosswalks, double parked or parked in a position deemed to be hazardous will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.

Parking on Eddy Glover Boulevard will be allowed on both the extreme north and south sides of the boulevard.  There will be no parking allowed on or between the grass medians on Eddy Glover Boulevard and in between the grass medians encompassing the festival site.

No parking will be allowed on Stanley Street at any time during the evening, for public safety reasons and due to the fact that Stanley Street is a state highway.

At 7:00 p.m., there will be no eastbound traffic on Blake Road at Kim Drive.  Eastbound traffic on Blake Road will be directed onto Kim Drive and/or McClintock Street.

At 8:30 p.m., Stanley Street, between Barbour Road and Paul Manafort Drive and Francis Street, will be closed to motor vehicle traffic.  Southbound Stanley Street traffic will be detoured eastbound onto Barbour Road.  Northbound Stanley Street traffic will be detoured eastbound onto Paul Manafort Drive or westbound onto Francis Street.

At the conclusion of the fireworks display, the following traffic routes will be in effect:

Traffic traveling eastbound on Eddy Glover Boulevard at Stanley Street, right turns only southbound onto Stanley Street.

Traffic traveling southbound on Hartford Road at Firehouse Lane, right turns only northbound onto Firehouse Lane to Stanley Street.

The following are strictly prohibited from the festival area:  mopeds, bicycle riding, skate boarding, roller-skating, roller-blading, dogs and alcoholic beverages.

The public should anticipate a delay in the movement of traffic in the area.  Members of the New Britain Police Department Patrol Division, New Britain Police Department Explorers Post #25, New Britain Police Department Community Service Officers, Central Connecticut State University Police Department, Newington Police Department, Connecticut State Police and members of the Public Works Department Traffic Maintenance Division will be on scene to expedite the flow of traffic as much as possible.
