Polygraph Unit

The New Britain Police Polygraph Unit consists of three members, Chief James Wardwell, Lieutenant Christopher Chute and Detective Adam Rembisz, all of which attended and completed extensive polygraph training through the Texas Department of Public Safety Polygraph School located in Austin, Texas.   All members of the polygraph unit are certified examiners and continually undergo rigorous training to maintain their certifications.  All members of the polygraph unit are also active members in the nationally esteemed polygraph associations such as the American Association of Police Polygraphists and American Polygraph Association, along with the local Connecticut Polygraph Association.  Chief Wardwell currently serves as a Region III Director (Northeast United States) on the AAPP Board of Directors, Lieutenant Chute serves as President of the CPA and Detective Rembisz serves as the Vice President of the CPA.

The goal of a polygraph unit is to establish whether the person taking the exam is being truthful or deceptive regarding the subject matter under investigation. The New Britain Police Polygraph Unit conducts examinations such as police applicant screening exams, specific criminal investigation exams and evidentiary knowledge exams.  The New Britain Police Polygraph Unit uses the most up to date technology and techniques that are supported by scientific studies to ensure that the decisions being rendered in regards to truth or deception are valid and reliable.  The polygraph unit is regularly utilized by the New Britain Police Department investigators and officers to assist in their investigations.  The polygraph unit is also available and commonly utilized by other law enforcement agencies such as local and state to aid in their investigations.
