The Records
Bureau is charged with the dual responsibility of collecting and processing photographic crime scene evidence and maintaining
Department-wide records management systems.
Major tasks and duties include :
* Maintains and monitors Sexual Offender
Registry compliance.
* Managing and operating the Department's Photographic and Fingerprint Laboratories.
*
Maintaining, indexing, filing, and storing all "hard copy" Incident Reports, Arrest Reports, Criminal Histories,
and Gun Permits/Registrations.
* Administering the Department's media/public information programs.
* Providing
overall direction, guidance, and supervision of the Data Processing Unit.
The Data Processing Unit is the Department's
automated Management Information Center. Under the direction and supervision of the Records Bureau, the Unit's primary
responsibility is to provide comprehensive computerized information systems and services to the Department.
Major tasks
and duties include:
* Collecting and reviewing daily hard copy reports of complaints, incidents, and services requiring
police assistance/response to ensure accuracy and completeness.
* Daily data entry and maintenance of key file information
systems (i.e. Calls-for-Service, Criminal History, Uniform Crime Report, etc.)
* Coordinating and developing processing
methods and techniques to ensure optimum use of data resources.
* Preparing in-house reports to assist police administrators
in conducting crime and workload analysis, and developing resource deployment strategies.
* Providing on-going evaluation
and monitoring of system performance.
