Youth Bureau

The Youth Bureau is the investigative arm of the Police Department charged with the detection, investigation, deterrence and prevention of delinquency behavior and juvenile crime.

Major tasks and duties include:

- The handling, follow-up and disposition of all complaints and/or case investigations involving youths under 16 years of age.
- The investigation of all sex crimes committed by AND against children under 16 years of age.
- The confidential processing of youthful offenders.
- The preparation and presentation of juvenile court cases.
- The diversion of first-time juvenile offenders out of the juvenile justice system (i.e. social/human service agency referrals).
- The provision of assistance to the School District and Youth Services Bureau on matters involving truancy, troubled youths and delinquency prevention programming.
- Working closely with the Department of Children & Families to help the children of New Britain.
