The Youth Bureau is the investigative arm of the Police Department charged with the detection, investigation, deterrence
and prevention of delinquency behavior and juvenile crime.
Major tasks and duties include:
- The handling, follow-up
and disposition of all complaints and/or case investigations involving youths under 16 years of age.
- The investigation
of all sex crimes committed by AND against children under 16 years of age.
- The confidential processing of youthful
offenders.
- The preparation and presentation of juvenile court cases.
- The diversion of first-time juvenile offenders
out of the juvenile justice system (i.e. social/human service agency referrals).
- The provision of assistance to the
School District and Youth Services Bureau on matters involving truancy, troubled youths and delinquency prevention programming.
- Working closely with the Department of Children & Families to help the children of New Britain.
